From Barbycu to Barbecue by Joseph R. Haynes - Booked by the Cover

Welcome to the Book by the Cover Blog(cast), a spin on a podcast I'm currently able to record again! Please look forward to new podcasts this month- find the older ones on YouTube . Today's book is: From Barbycu to Barbecue. From B to B in Baltimore. Today I'm sitting at a Starbucks in Charles Village-what feels like a colorful college town-writing this blog. I just bought a Ginger Super Shot drink, and it's spicy-it's got some heat for sure. The warmth balances out the chill in the air as summer transitions into autumn. Yes, pumpkin spice is back on the menu, too... and pecan? That's new. I don't remember that one being at Starbucks in years past. Anyway, this time of year is ideal for bonfires and pit beef, a signature dish of this port city better known for its crabs.     The cover of the book for today has a dark grey background with a single red flame and black lines of smoke. The flame harkens back to the eye on the cover of the book in the previous po...

The Eye Book by Ian Grierson - Booked by the Cover

Welcome to the Book by the Cover Blog(cast), a spin on a podcast I'm currently able to record again! Please look forward to new podcasts this month- find the older ones on YouTube . Today's book is: They Eye Book by Ian Grierson. [ First of all, I am in the coolest library I have visited so far. Inside there are neon signs labeling different sections and towards the back is a video game seating area. I'm also sitting on a soft swivel chair-yay!  Every library is cool just for being a library, but if you are looking for a gateway library, the Cockeysville's branch in Baltimore County, Maryland is worth considering. ] If you read the above aside, you might have guessed where I am writing this post right now: Baltimore, MD. I am in Baltimore county- not the city (for today anyway). There are already multiple itineraries focused within Baltimore city, so I will do my best to have today's itinerary focus on Baltimore county if I can.   And speaking of I, an eye is the m...

Catching the Big Fish by David Lynch - Booked by the Cover

Welcome to the Book by the Cover Blog(cast), a spin on a podcast I'm currently able to record again! Please look forward to new podcasts this month- find the older ones on YouTube . Today's (audio) book is: Catching the Big Fish by David Lynch. While writing this post, I am still in New York City. After seeing this book on the shelf at H&H bookstore in Philadelphia and heading to New York, I decided to look deeper into David Lynch's life-especially his bites of the Big Apple. I found David Lynch organized a campaign to stop littering in the concrete jungle, another name for NYC. His anti-littering campaign was in the early 90s. I'm not sure how it turned out, but streets are relatively free of litter now. I wonder if that's at least in part thanks to his efforts decades ago.  The book cover here is visually simple, but there are multiple captions to inspire travels. The background color is a deep, yet bright blue. Across the center is a thin stream of water. The...

A Beginner's Guide to Golf by Larry Dennis - Booked by the Cover

Welcome to the Book by the Cover Blog(cast), a spin on a podcast I'm currently able to record again! Please look forward to new podcasts this month- find the older ones on YouTube . Today's book is: A Beginner's Guide to Golf by Larry Dennis. This week I am in New York City, NY. When I left for this leg of the tour, I brought along a CD player. So, I plan on walking around and checking out some CD stores. I figure that's a good fit for a golf-themed week since there's-you know-a hole in one of those things. I'm jumping ahead of myself though. Let's get into the description of the book and how it'll inspire some travel.  The cover of this book has a green background with the title in larger yellow text. The text of the title is in all caps as is a caption at the bottom of the title that states: "How to get started... and have fun doing it." The text of the title has a thin black stroke around it; the white text at the bottom does not. Close to t...

Care of the Dog by Charles Leedham - Booked by the Cover

Welcome to the Book by the Cover Blog(cast), a spin on a podcast I'm currently able to record again! Please look forward to new podcasts this month- find the older ones on YouTube . Today's book is: Care of the Dog by Charles Leedham.   This will be a celebrity blog post. A Dr. J mural I parked by the other day will join in on the inspiration of this itinerary. Up next is a description of both the cover of the book and the mural. The book cover displays a puppy on a scale. The photograph is in black and white; the title of the book is above the photo.  The title at the top has all capital letters in bold, black text and is centered within a yellow rectangle covering about a quarter of the top of the cover. The author's name is in the same shade of yellow and tucked into the bottom corner of the cover.  The pup on the scale in the photo appears to be a young bloodhound. The long nose and floppy ears are the two main indicators.-no characteristic wrinkles yet. The pup's ...

Booked by the Cover - Better Than We Found It by Frederick and Porsche Joseph

Welcome to the Book by the Cover Blog(cast), a spin on a podcast I'm currently able to record again! Please look forward to new podcasts this month- find the older ones on YouTube . Today's book is: Better Than We Found It by Frederick and Porsche Joseph.   [ "At no moment did I think this was all real. Even reality requires a healthy dose of fake to keep itself moving along. The questions that surfaced for me weren't necessarily in relation to the  validity  of others' actions (or mine) but of their  sincerity . As I had mentioned to a friend years ago-this life here, now is more about outcome than intention. Friend was sharing an unfortunate incident between herself and an acquaintance we both knew at the time. She made every effort to rectify the incident by giving reasons for her behavior. The shared acquaintance, however and unfortunately, valued promises over anything else-empty or otherwise. There is a fine line between a promise and an intention, but when y...

Booked by the Cover - Where the Watermelons Grow

Image
Welcome to the Book by the Cover Blog(cast), a spin on a podcast I'm currently able to record again! Please look forward to new podcasts this month- find the older ones on YouTube . Today's book is: Where the Watermelons Grow by Cindy Baldwin. [ This book was searched for online-not in a local bookstore or library-because of the Watermelon Festival in Richmond, VA. It is on Sunday, August 10th this year. ]   The cover of this book blends the red to white to green color scheme of watermelon within a sky-laden landscape view. The teardrop-shaped seeds make the cover look more like a slice of watermelon than a snapshot of the great outdoors. On the green skin/grassy ground, stands a person and their shadow. From what I can see, the person is a young woman. She is paired with her shadow. Both are running through an open field. She is tiny compared to the cover and placed in the bottom left corner with a white shirt and light blue shorts. Her feet frolic through the tall green grass...
